Immersive Interactive Experiences

Academic Work - NYU

Real-time immersive experiences combining cinematic storytelling with interactive systems. These projects explore the intersection of technical implementation and creative design in game engines.

Week 1 - Expressive Environments

For this assignment, I created an ambient first-person experience centered around exploration and atmosphere rather than objectives. The player awakens within one of Inara's visions, a surreal, dreamlike forest at sunset, where crimson trees, drifting fog, and fractured ruins create a haunting yet enchanted mood. I designed the environment to guide the player organically toward a foggy clearing where ancient pillars stand as remnants of forgotten times.

This project connects to my overarching story, Veilbound, where Inara drifts between dreams and reality. The environment represents the first glimpse into her visions, spaces that are both beautiful and unsettling, memories of a world long gone that she alone can witness.

Week 2 - Cinematic Sequences & Player Control

Building on the atmospheric foundation from Week 1, this assignment focused on integrating cinematic storytelling with interactive gameplay. I created a seamless transition from a scripted camera sequence that establishes the environment's mood and narrative context, then hands control to the player for free exploration. The opening cinematic uses carefully choreographed camera movements to guide the viewer's attention and establish the mysterious atmosphere before allowing them to discover the space at their own pace.

This approach demonstrates the balance between authored narrative moments and player agency, essential elements in modern interactive design. The cinematic sequence establishes emotional investment and spatial understanding, while the transition to player control maintains immersion and allows for personal discovery within the carefully crafted environment.
